Dear Students, Faculty, fellow alumni and friends,
Greetings!

With immense pride and enthusiasm, I am privileged to be with you at the Central Department of Biotechnology (CDBT), Kathmandu, Nepal.  CDBT, founded in 2008, is one of the youngest established Department at the Institute of Science and Technology (IOST), Tribhuvan University (TU), aiming at training leading talents in frontier and applied life science. Our commitment to equipping students with cutting-edge skills, fostering groundbreaking research, and addressing national, regional, and global challenges through scientific discovery remains steadfast. Leading the department at the forefront of biological innovation and excellence is a privilege and the responsibility. In recent decades, biotechnology has emerged as a transformative discipline, unlocking the secrets of nature. Advances in biotechnology sciences have revolutionized our understanding of living systems, enabling us to tackle humanity’s most pressing challenges. Biotechnology continues to reshape our approach to global issues, from combating life-threatening diseases and mitigating environmental degradation to enhancing agricultural productivity and driving industrial progress.
We proudly can say that we wanted to work in computational quantum biology in collaboration with the Central Department of Physics, our works in new antibiotics, our works in water splitting and CO2 reduction associated with nanotechnology, the bacteriophage, biofertilizer, food biotechnology and works in virology is worth recalling.
Our biotechnology programs are meticulously designed to provide students with a solid foundation in key areas such as synthetic biology, precision medicine, CRISPR and Gene Editing, Environmental Biotechnology, Agricultural Biotechnology. Beyond academic excellence, we strongly emphasize research and innovation, aiming to expand knowledge, develop novel solutions, and inspire the next generation of life scientists.
